Air France celebrates Boeing 747 retirement

Air France is paying tribute to its last Boeing 747 aircraft which will be retired today.

More than 45 years after its first flight from Paris to New York on 3 June 1970, the long-haul Jumbo Jet is today making its last commercial flight for the the French airline - between Mexico City and Paris.

Air France Boeing 747 To commemorate the iconic aircraft, Air France is inviting its customers to share in several different celebrations. On January 16 and 17, Air France staff are organising special visits to the Air and Space Museum at Le Bourget to see the company’s last Boeing 747. The visits are free but must be reserved online at

. The trip features a one-hour tour of the aircraft, which includes a guided exploration of the Business and Economy class cabins with the cabin crew, followed by a tour of the upper deck and cockpit with an Air France pilot.

Air France took delivery of its very first Boeing 747 in 1970 In addition, on January 14, Air France is operating two tribute flights over France on-board the company’s last two B747s. The flights, AF744 and AF747, will depart Paris-Charles de Gaulle at 9am and 11:30am, respectively. Passengers on the unique two-hour flights will receive champagne and a Business class lunch, as well as in-flight commentary on France’s history, heritage and famous landmarks.
