Shangri-La Hotel, Doha opens its doors

Yesterday saw the official opening of Shangri-La Hotel, Doha.

The 50-storey, five-star hotel is located in the West Bay district, the Qatari capital’s business district, and offers “hospitality from the heart with a blend of Asian and Qatari traditions,” Shangri-La said in a statement. In honour of Qatar’s rich tradition of falconry, the building is designed to resemble a falcon’s head, whilst a falcon statue also greets guests at the entrance.

Horizon club on level 42 Level 42 houses the largest executive lounge in Doha, Horizon Club, which offers 360-degree panoramic views of the cityscape, buffet breakfast, daily afternoon tea and evening cocktails with drinks and canape’s served between 5:30 and 7:30p.m. The hotel has been developed by Al Rayan Tourism Development Company, and offers 272 “contemporary, yet elegant” rooms and suites, many with views of either the city or the Arabian Gulf. There are also 42 fully serviced and furnished apartments, a first of their kind in Doha.

Deluxe king room “The much-anticipated opening of Shangri-La Hotel, Doha represents another significant milestone for ARTIC and for Doha’s hotel industry. The Shangri-La brand is widely recognised in the hospitality sector as a benchmark for quality and we are delighted to be bringing Shangri-La’s levels of luxury and service to Doha,” said H.E. Sheikh Mohamed Bin Faisal Al Thani, vice chairman of ARTIC. As well as the executive lounge, the hotel houses a total of seven food and beverage outlets, including a Chinese restaurant.

Lobby lounge A 2,000-square-metre pool deck, outdoor swimming pool, gym, Jacuzzi, and steam and sauna facilities are also available to guests. There is also a spa, called CHI. Events spaces include an 840sqm Grand Ballroom and eight meeting rooms. Free WiFi is available throughout the hotel and in the rooms. Shangri-La is offering a celebratory opening rate from QAR895 (£165) per room, per night.
